Crime In The Eastern Cape

Crime has been a tormenting factor in the lives of people in the Eastern Cape over the years. Every year the is a drastic increase in the crime rate in our province and in the country as a whole. This not only affects the big cities in the province but the rural areas too.

Looking at different crimes that are common in the Eastern Cape we can outline the following; robbery, murder, rape, assault, drug dealing etc. One in a group of Three people is a victim of the above mentioned crimes or is closely affected by the crimes. Drug dealing, robbery and murder have been troubling areas in the the province such as East London where you find people being victimized on a daily basis and the way the rate is increasing it is evident that it is still far from improving or ending.

Homophobic attacks and Xenophobic attacks are also amongst the crimes that the Eastern Cape has experienced over the years even though they haven't been as frequent as the ones mentioned above.

As we are approaching the festive season people are beginning to fear for their safety as crime stats continue to rise in the Eastern Cape year in and year out. Captain Lulama Nkewana from the Zwelitsha SAPS says they are doing everything in their power to try and minimize crime in the province. People must work with the police in trying to put an end to the alarming rise of crime in our province.
