Crime in the BCM area(EL and sorrounding areas)

Narrowing our focus now to the Buffalo City Metro areas, lets take a look at the crime here. Looking back at the beggining of the year we've heard  incidents of shootings and killings, robbery and so on, in the Beachfront in East London. We also can date back to some drug dealing incidents, hyjackings and shootings in the Mdantsane.

But in July 2015 an "Anti-crime" operation called operation squeeze was done by the SAPS to try and deal with the alarming crime rate in the area. The campaign led to 41 arrests on crimes of drug dealing, drunken driving, rape and attempted murder. This campaign was a good step in the right direction fro claiming back the safety in our streets.

The incresing crime rate obstructs our constitutional rights that are enshrined in the constitution on Section 21 which is the freedom of movement and freedom and security of a person on Section 12. Crime limits us on where to go and where not to,we find places now which are NO GO ARES, places such as Ziphunzana and some areas in Mdantsane. In August this year we heard rumours of a serial killer that emerged in EL after reports of a number of 7 homeless men were found mudered in the CBD. This is one of the incidents that brings fear and uncertainty in the minds of the people in the EL ares this festive

A lot still needs to be done to bring back safety in our communities and the government has to be held accountable for that.

Crime In The Eastern Cape

Crime has been a tormenting factor in the lives of people in the Eastern Cape over the years. Every year the is a drastic increase in the crime rate in our province and in the country as a whole. This not only affects the big cities in the province but the rural areas too.

Looking at different crimes that are common in the Eastern Cape we can outline the following; robbery, murder, rape, assault, drug dealing etc. One in a group of Three people is a victim of the above mentioned crimes or is closely affected by the crimes. Drug dealing, robbery and murder have been troubling areas in the the province such as East London where you find people being victimized on a daily basis and the way the rate is increasing it is evident that it is still far from improving or ending.

Homophobic attacks and Xenophobic attacks are also amongst the crimes that the Eastern Cape has experienced over the years even though they haven't been as frequent as the ones mentioned above.

As we are approaching the festive season people are beginning to fear for their safety as crime stats continue to rise in the Eastern Cape year in and year out. Captain Lulama Nkewana from the Zwelitsha SAPS says they are doing everything in their power to try and minimize crime in the province. People must work with the police in trying to put an end to the alarming rise of crime in our province.

Below is a link of the crime stats broken down from the top to the bottom.
